Medal of honour for the Mothers of large Families
This medal is instituted by order N. 917 on the 22nd of May 1939 and awarded to mothers of large families with at least seven living children. For each additional child, a metal bow is attached on the ribbon. When the number of bows would surpass ten (17 children), the ribbon is worn without bows in a V shape. A version with a ring attachment also exists. This version is produced by Emilio Pagani and marked with 38MI.
Front: a mother with seven children, with the child at the right holding a Fasces. At the left the text: “UNIONE FASCISTA FAMIGLIE NUMEROSE” (Fascist Union of large Families).
Reverse: two large Fasces separated by a tree of life and the letter M of Benito Mussolini.
Ribbon: green with two blue stripes.

On the right, under the right foot of the child holding the Fasces, the maker mark of the Royal Mint, a crowned Z, is visible.
The award came with the following envelop
Front: the crowned initials "RZ" standing for Regia Zecca: the Royal Mint. Printed on the bag is a number indicating the number of bows on the medal, in this case seven.
